About

I am entering my third year as a graduate student in Philosophy here at Tulane University.  My primary interest is philosophy of mind, and I am very interested in the various problems surrounding consciousness.  I currently fall loosely into the category known as eliminative materialist, although I am hardly wed to any particular viewpoint.  Suffice to say that I find the various issues surrounding qualitative phenomenal experience, better known as qualia, and propositional attitudes problematic.
I am also very interested in evolutionary biology, my thesis for my B.A. being on that subject.

I received my B.A. in Philosophy from the University of New Orleans.  I also have an M.A. in English with an emphasis in Linguistics from the Univeristy of New Orleans as well.

I have spent a considerable portion of my life playing in various bands, and, at one point, I was on tour for close to five years straight.  Currently I sing in Dead On based here in New Orleans.

I can be contacted by email at jclaytonATtulane.edu (obviously, AT is replaced by @).  You can reach me on my office phone at 504-862-3392, and my office is at NWCMB 424.
