Religion, Magick, & Wisdom

Despite contrary popular belief, Wiccans are not Devil worshippers or Satanists. Instead, they embody a philosophy of  life that includes the worship and  intimate relationship with nature and the earth. Wiccans describe themselves as in sync with the natural rhythms of nature, including the different phases of the moon and seasons. Wiccans see the universe with the Creative Power, which defines everything as masculine or feminine, which lives in all people, making everyone importantly connected.

The Wiccan philosophy and world view does not acknowledge or give any credit to any authoritarian hierarchy, as this is not the natural way. Instead, Wiccans give tribute to those who teach and impart their knowledge and wisdom on others. They believe that these are the true leaders, valuing their higher state of mind and their teeming intellect.

As mentioned, Wiccans do not believe in the notion of absolute evil or in the Devil. They also do not believe in hurting others for mere pleasure, following the threefold theory: Whatever energy one sends out returns with three times the strength to the sender, so it is very wise to only be kind to others.  The danger in magick keeps ethics on track, letting most Wiccans live peaceful and harmonious lives in contact with nature. In fact, one of the central ethics of the Wiccan philosophy and religion is "And harm ye none, do as ye will" (magicwicca.com).

Overall, Wiccans do not have any problems with the Christian faith except for the fact that some Christians believe that their religion is the only way, condemning all others who believe differently an eternity in Hell. Instead, Wiccans acknowledge that there are more options to Faith, and that nothing is set in stone or better than another. While they see other religions as legitimate philosophies of life, Wiccans do not have a holy book or a prophet.

With all religions, there are theories of death. Many cultures fear death, seeing it as the end. However, Wiccans do not fear death. Instead, they see each life as a lesson, leading one on to a higher state of understanding through reincarnation and transformation.

The pentagram is an important symbol in Wicca. When standing upright, as shown above, the pentagram represents protection, the five points showing the different elements of nature important to the Wiccans. Spirit encompasses the Divine. Air corresponds to the arts, creativity, and intelligence. Earth shows stability and endurance, fire signifies courage, and water represents emotion (http://www.angelfire.com/ma2/niophita/pentagram.html).
