  4. How do I FTP a file to StudentWeb?

#1 My page is in the public_html directory and when I access it through Netscape I get "Forbidden Your client is not allowed to access the requesested object." what do I do?

To fix this problem you need to login to StudentWeb using telnet.
Once you are at the StudentWeb prompt, which will look like:

(#) login@StudentWeb>
You will need to go into your public_html directory by typing:
cd public_html
and then type:
chmod 755 *
This should take care of that error message.

Explanation of problem:

The error is in the mode of the file that you are trying to access. To find out what mode it is in you type at the prompt:
ls -l
In the left hand column what you want to see is:
drwxr-xr-x or -rwxr-xr-x
They show that the files are readable and executeable for everyone.

#2 How do I get a counter for my web pages?

If you are a StudentWeb user all you have to do is fill out a form.

This is a counter for StudentWeb users ONLY.

#3 I am looking for my friend that goes to Tulane can you help?

There are 3 places to look to try and find someone:

  • If they have a homepage they would be here.
  • Or you can try the Tulane X500 Directory.
  • If you are looking for alumni try the Alumni Directory.

Or if that does not work try, First initial Last name up to 8 letters @mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu.
    (ie Joe Thompson = jthompso@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu)
