StudentWeb World Wide Web Student Server Debuts
November 1, 1995
StudentWeb Committee, composed entirely of student volunteers, is proud
to present StudentWeb: Tulane University's first World Wide Web Student
Server, on-line to allow Tulane students to publish HTML documents on the
internet. Tulane Computer Services has purchased the computer and is
allowing StudentWeb Committee to maintain it. This joint project is
designed to fulfill a need identified by students, and will be linked to
the Tulane Home Page.
Committed to making internet publishing easy, StudentWeb Committee has
created a simple-to-use server with a friendly interface. Quick on-line
registration is made possible by a computer script written by the student
volunteers. A Tulane student simply fills out a form and a generic Home Page
is automatically created, with instructions given
on how to further personalize the page.
Student users are expected to follow Tulane Computer Services policies,
University Guidelines for Publications, and the Student Code of Conduct.
There are no further restrictions on content.
StudentWeb Committee Administrators include: David Endler, System
Administrator; Eric Strauss, Committee
Chair/Public Relations; Mike
Holzman, Interface Design; Tom Ward, Interface Design; D.J.
Verret, Help and Support.
StudentWeb is a first generation IBM RS/6000 WWW server. It is a 40P and
has a PowerPC processor. StudentWeb Committee is currently running
Netscape Corporation's Server and the operating system is IBM's version
of UNIX, AIX v4.1.
Additional information is available on-line at
http://studentweb.tulane.edu/faq.html.
The volunteers of StudentWeb Committee thank Tulane Computer Services, in
particular Dr. Jed Diem, Director Academic Computing, for this
opportunity to make a World Wide Web Server available to the students of
Tulane.
