About Me

I'm a doctoral student in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University in New Orleans, where I began my studies with Dr. Tom Sherry in Fall 2005 (arriving one week before Hurricane Katrina!). I spent the first semester at Dartmouth College, where I was graciously taken in and given office space by the Environmental Studies Department and was able to take classes in the Environmental Studies and Biology departments. I'm currently living in New Orleans, between trips to conduct field work in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

I'm originally from the Pacific Northwest and received my Bachelor's degree in Biology and Environmental Studies at Willamette University in Salem, OR, in 1995. After a year in the AmeriCorps and three years doing seasonal field research internships with the National Audubon Society, Idaho Bird Observatory, Hawkwatch International, and the Institute for Bird Populations' MAPS Program, I joined IBP full-time in 1999. I continued with IBP as a field biologist, MAPSPROG programmer, and data analyst until 2005, when I left to begin graduate school, though I continue to do some consulting work for them.
