Cerro Danush Field Project 2007

Cerro Danush is a small peak located near the town of Macuilxóchitl in the Tlacolula arm of the Oaxaca Valley. It is part of a larger archaeological site that incorporates several small hills in the area and the land in between them that is referred to as Dainzú-Macuilxóchitl. Although Cerro Danush has never been excavated formally, it has been known about for quite some time. I have recently received funding from the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies Inc. to map, survey, and collect the materials from the surface of its terraces. From this study, I hope to develop an excavation scheme for the following field season. I have just recently received approval from INAH's Consejo de Arqueología (Number 724 under the page Proyectos Aprobados), as well as approval from the state and local officials, to conduct the first field season of my dissertation project in Dainzú-Macuilxóchitl, Oaxaca. The project will begin on September 10th, I will try to update this weekly from Oaxaca.
